The Blueprint: Life Story

Classification: Junior Major: computer information system GPA: 2.72 I am very grateful for my accomplishments thus far in my life. My experiences have molded and strengthened my character and desires and has opened doors to a future of accomplishments. I have always been interested in athletics. It gives me the fulfillment of accomplishment and discipline necessary to succeed in life. At a young age, I would always look forward to extra-curricular activities. At the time, I became interested in joining a marital arts program. When I started, I didn’t know what to expect in the matter of training and how difficult it would be. I would always complain and make excuses not to come. But over the next few months I started to realize how much I’ve improved through hard work and dedication. Martial arts became a pleasurable experience for myself because I’ve taken what the program could deliver and took what I need to succeed in life in the future. Over the next few years after attaining a higher rank in martial arts, I began to entertain audiences with demonstrations in local community centers and in schools. As more and more demonstrations were done, I became comfortable in performing in front of large audiences. This greatly benefited me into my eventual role in the Martial Arts Masters of the 20th Century television event in 1998. This was a true honor and privilege to be accompanied in this event because I was surrounded by great masters of the martial arts who knew what it takes to become successful. Through these glorious years of critiquing and discovering martial arts, I felt that I could give back to martial arts what martial arts gave me. After achieving my black belt in martial arts I decided to give back by requesting to teach younger children martial arts during the weekdays, while also running errands and doing maintenance in the facilities on weekends. Track and field is a sport that will always be a true enjoyment for me. While in elementary school, I was exposed to the world of track and field of one year. After that year there weren’t any more tracks in the school. I was an active child looking for a direction to enter. In junior high school, I was introduced to a coach that has seen me run before in elementary school. I wasn’t really looking forward to running track ever again because there were no junior high schools that had a track team. The coach I’ve was introduced to be head coach of track team called Bronx International Express track club. I was very excited to have the opportunity to continue something I started but didn’t have the chance to continue. When I first started out, I would of have all the natural speed in the world but have no sense of direction and technique that came with running track. My coach would tell me to gain technique first then the speed will fall in. I decided to take that into consideration the rest of the way for me in every practice I attended. Throughout my years in track I’ve receive many accolades including being a participant in the Amateur Athletic Union Junior Olympics in Knoxville, Tennessee in 2003. I continued to strive for excellence in track and field entering track and field in my high school Frederick Douglass Academy. Even though I had a new coaching staff, I still maintained a good sense of attitude and willingness to learn from others. In my sophomore year, I was ranked 5th in the freshman/sophomore city championships in the 100 dash meters and 6th in the 200 meter dash. Also I have earned the most valuable player award for my high school. Football for me is life through actions in sports. In my first year of junior high school, while in the obstacles of track, I wanted to try football and see what it’s all about. I attended one practice at the Abyssinian community center where a football team was located in my neighborhood, and I quit after that day. I never fully gasped the fun in football that moment until my senior year in junior high school. When I began to play during recess, I enjoyed running with the football and hanging out with friends. I understood the game a little more than I’ve known at the beginning of junior high school. I’ve gain so much interests in it, I imagine myself to play high school football one day. While filling out the application process for high schools, I noticed that there weren’t any schools that had a football team in Manhattan. There were only a few schools but those weren’t in my best interests in my education. So I decided to go to Frederick Douglass Academy. There were early rumors saying that there was going to have a football program in the near future. So that influences my final decision to enter that school. During my freshman year with no high school football team, I decided to play for the team in which I had previously gave up on earlier. I’ve gain a significant amount of knowledge of the sport with the uniformity of football. Even though I wasn’t very technical with my skills, I had lots of potential to be good. I decided to quit once again but for a much profound reason. My former coach of the Abyssinian football team, decided to create a high school football team in Harlem that includes all the schools in the Manhattan area. I jumped right on the team from the start and concentrated on improving my skills and enjoying the moment of being a high school football player. During my first year on the team, I’ve received an award for sophomore of the year. I felt great to be the first recipient ever to achieve this award. My junior year I decided to become more of a team player and give a helping hand. I was chosen team captain of the football team. I felt very proud to become fully apart of the team. My senior continued just as well as planned. I work tremendously hard to become ranked 10th in the state for receiving yards and renamed team captain. Throughout my whole life I’ve been destined to succeed in life. Through my hard work, dedication, and willingness to help others, has benefited me for the classroom.
